Ever since the turn of the new century, Roy Gingrich’s once compelling bible commentaries were beginning to lose traction. Probably not for any other reason than the lack of an online presence. Sure, they had a website, but one stylistically challenged—a cookie cutter site constructed in a time that considered online graphics as cutting edge.
After consulting with Doug Gingrich, Dr Gingrich’s only son, a new look was decided on, one that used the backdrop of an open book positioned in between a column of church pews, lending the website a religious feel from the outset. Condensing what was once an ode to Dr Gingrich into a website that focused on actually selling his books was our primary objective, and after considering the average age of his readers—older, to say the least—we came to the decision that less would be more (see “Four is the new Ten”).
During the beginning conceptual stages, I mentioned the impact that posting loads of relevant content has on Google, and after consulting a few advertising companies, we found it may be profitable to present the books in HTML as well. The result was a beautiful website that made it simple to purchase books or simply just read them online for free. Who doesn’t like free?
